Description: This was a surprise spotting this weekend, a pair of Egyptian Geese with five goslings. Egyptian Goose is a long-legged, medium sized and stocky Goose, mainly of various shades of pale brown. Both sexes sport a distinctive white panel on wings, and the distinctive red-brown eye-surround. Habitat: Observed on an artificial lake (and town water reserve) at outskirts of a smaller urban center in rural parts of Geneva lake valley. The lake borders the town, protected wetlands and a broadleaved forest. This lake and a neighbouring wetlands are one of the main places to observe waterfowls. Notes: This was a surprising spotting this weekend on that lake - the Egyptian goose is an African species, some feral population are noted in England where it was introduced in 18th century (information from Collins Bird Guide).
