Description:
This was a surprise spotting this weekend, a pair of Egyptian Geese with five goslings. Egyptian Goose is a long-legged, medium sized and stocky Goose, mainly of various shades of pale brown. Both sexes sport a distinctive white panel on wings, and the distinctive red-brown eye-surround.
Habitat:
Observed on an artificial lake (and town water reserve) at outskirts of a smaller urban center in rural parts of Geneva lake valley. The lake borders the town, protected wetlands and a broadleaved forest. This lake and a neighbouring wetlands are one of the main places to observe waterfowls.
Notes:
This was a surprising spotting this weekend on that lake - the Egyptian goose is an African species, some feral population are noted in England where it was introduced in 18th century (information from Collins Bird Guide). A Kerikeri real estate agent has been charged with assaulting the Far North s top cop in a horrendous case of mistaken identity.
The assault occurred in a Paihia bar while the officer was off duty.
Kevin Lloyd, 27, appeared in the Kaikohe District Court on April 20 charged with assault with intent to injure.
According to court documents the man he assaulted was Roderick Whiu - better known as Far North Area Commander Inspector Riki Whiu.

Bill Gates and his wife Melinda did not sign a prenuptial agreement to divide their fortune, which includes properties in five states, a private jet, an art collection and a fleet of luxury cars.
The divorce papers filed by Melinda in Washington and obtained by the Daily Mail show Melinda did not ask for spousal support and has requested a trial date in April 2022.
